What distinguishes OVAL TENNIS from other companies?
Oval Tennis, Inc. has been in the business of building and servicing tennis courts in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey metropolitan areas for 35 continuous years. We maintain and service most of the country club tennis courts in Westchester, Fairfield & Bergen counties, in addition to a large number of estates and private courts. Oval is the recommended contractor for Nova Sport Surfaces (www.novasports.com), the premier asphalt court surface material supplier, and we are the largest contractor for Har-Tru (fast-dry material from Lee Tennis) in the Northeast.
How much space will a tennis court require?
Generally, a tennis court uses a 120' by 60' footprint (7200 square feet in area); however, we have constructed courts on as little as a 102' by 52' footprint.
How close should courts be to one another?
At a minimum, outdoor courts should have 12' between each sideline, although an 18' separation is preferred. For a battery of courts within a common enclosure, a 24' separation between courts is recommended. This permits sufficient space for a shade structure, player seating/storage between courts, as well as a safe overrun area for players. It also permits the installation of separator fences to prevent balls from rolling into the next court. For indoor courts where movable netting is used between courts, a minimum of 18' between courts is recommended. (Divider netting is not considered a fixed obstruction.) 18' is the minimum recommended distance between indoor courts.
How do I decide between the fast-dry surface and an asphalt surface?
Fast-dry courts have a softer surface, which results in less impact, less fatigue, and slower play. Fast-dry court surfaces do not radiate as much heat as asphalt. Fast-dry is presently the preferred surface at country clubs. Asphalt courts can support other activities such as basketball and roller hockey. The surface requires little maintenance, and allows for an extended playing season affected only by the weather.
What maintenance will be necessary on my court?
Fast dry courts require annual reconditioning, which we schedule with our clients every spring, watering daily (Oval installs an automatic sprinkler system as part of the installation process) and power rolling after rainy weather.
Asphalt courts, on the other hand, require only occasional power washing.

What maintenance services does Oval Tennis offer?
Oval Tennis offers maintenance on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or will call basis. Maintenance involves the removal of debris, rolling of the court, weed application, Har-Tru application(when necessary) and/or calcium application(during dry periods).
How often should I maintain my tennis court?
Court maintenance depends on the use of the court. If you are an avid player that enjoys the court on a daily basis, we recommend weekly service by an Oval Maintenance Specialist. If your court is used less frequently, monthly service may be more appropriate. Call or email Oval to determine your best service schedule.
What is the proper height of a tennis net?
The net should be 3' (36") at the center strap, and 3'6" (42") at the post. This is the standard for both singles and doubles courts.
What equipment/accessories does Oval recommend for regular maintenance of my court?
Oval recommends that you have at least a line sweeper, drag broom, and tidi-court valet.
What is calcium chloride?
Calcium chloride is a deliquescent salt that retains moisture in the Har-Tru/clay court surface.
